I just purchased a high end Dell with 8GB, fast processor, powerful graphics card, blu-ray burner, et al. I have invested a month of hard work trying to get Nero Vision 10 to create a HD slide show from Nikon camera pics (family vacation). Vision 10 routinely crashes whenever I change the settings from low resolution 480p to higher resolutions up through 1080p. My intention was to create blu-ray videos. I have nothing to show for my effort but low resolution junk. If I knew what I know now, I could have stuck with Nero 7. I have experimented with countless variations for building my projects and they all end the same way with error messages like, "Nero has experienced a serious problem and must shut down....!" I have come to the conclusion that Nero released a product on the market that has not passed quality control testing. We customers are their guinea pigs. The tech support person told me yesterday (via chat line) that they only answer initial installation questions; then he ignored me. I emailed a form that I completed for my initial tech support inquiry and Nero wrote back that I needed the latest version. I replied that I had the latest version and they ignored me. I am a software developer. This is no way to run a software business. BTW, shame on PC Mag for awarding Editor's Choice to a product that they merely tested superficially. This forum on Amazon is the closest thing to a consumer watchdog that you'll find.
Hold the phone! A week makes a big difference. Based on a hunch, I applied a "divide and conquer" strategy to my Nero Vision 10 projects and finally enjoyed success. My projects are complex (i.e., hundreds of slide-show photos and short video clips, and lots of transitions and effects.) Vision could not scale up to swallow large, complex projects. It crashed during editing, and especially when I exported the projects to a 1080p MP4 file (i.e., a show stopper). However, now I break-up my projects into smaller chunks and render the video separately to numerous smaller MP4s (2 GB max). Then I setup a final project that combines the MP4s that I accumulated on my hard disk into a single 1080p blu-ray disk with each of the shorter videos acting as chapters. Nero templates can be used to create attractive menus that allow the user to jump to any chapter, or play them all straight through without interruption... just like commercial blu-rays disks. I burn the BD-Rs using an LG WH10LS30 drive. The blu-ray disks play great in my Sony blu-ray player at 1080p. Nero is a diamond-in-the-rough. The documentation is terrible, but with sufficient diligence one can create some amazing videos in HD. Just remember, "divide and conquer." It's not in their documentation.
